Sarah O’Regan - Ware High School Graduate, Class of 2011
I graduated from Ware Jr./Sr. High School in 2011 and was accepted into the 6-year Physician Assistant Program at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) in Boston. A physician assistant is a medical professional who is qualified to treat her own patients under the supervision of a physician.
I decided at a young age to study medicine. When I entered Ware Junior High my family and I met with my guidance counselor to discuss what courses were offered that would help me succeed with my goal. I decided to take as many sciences, math, honors and AP courses as possible.
I found my passion for science in Ms. Patterson’s sixth grade class. I had great relationships with my teachers and had a lot of mentors who helped me. From the encouraging words by my student council mentor, Mrs. Higney to one-on-one problem solving sessions with Mr. O, it was all there. My honors classes and AP courses at Ware High School prepared me well for the challenging courses at MCPHS.
I am now in my 4th year, which also is my first year of graduate school. In addition to taking very challenging medical courses, I volunteer at Children’s Hospital in Boston. Next year I will begin a series of clinical programs to get hands-on experience treating patients. Although it is hard, I am doing well and I’m happy.
The education and support I received at WHS most definitely prepared me for this challenging program. I will graduate from MCPHS in May 2017 and I hope to be a great PA.
