Kevin Moriarty, Class of 2002

I was a student in the Ware Public Schools system from kindergarten through high school.  I graduated from Ware High School as the valedictorian of the Class of 2002.  I continued my academic career at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, pursuing an undergraduate degree in civil engineering.  At UMass, I was a Dean’s List honoree and graduated with cum laude honors, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) in 2006.  I decided to return to UMass for a graduate degree in civil engineering with a transportation concentration, receiving a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE) in 2007.  Following successful completion of undergraduate and graduate requirements, I was employed as a Traffic/Safety Engineer at a regional consulting firm in Vienna, VA and Providence, RI.  More recently, I have been employed as a Project Engineer at a local consulting firm in Berkshire County.  Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, fishing/ice fishing, golf, skiing, and hiking.  I am a fan of all Boston/New England sports, NASCAR, and local auto racing.

I could not be happier with the education I received from the Ware Public Schools system.  In particular, the courses offered and the manner in which they were taught at Ware High School adequately prepared me for an engineering tract at UMass.  As with any life endeavor, the experience is what the individual makes of it.  For me, I successfully balanced educational requirements with athletics and other undertakings.  At Ware High School, I was a 3-sport athlete, playing baseball, football, and basketball.  At UMass, I was the graduate program lead for the freshman engineering living/learning community Talent Advancement Program.  Any student can be successful in the Ware Public Schools system, so long as they have a desire to learn and a willingness to put forth the effort.  From my experience, the teachers within the system will equally reciprocate this desire and effort to ensure the student’s success.
