Ware Public Schools welcomed Mr. Houlihan as the 5th Grade Special Education Teacher at WMS in December 2019. He was raised in a family of educators, loves having the holidays and summers off and school lunches. More than anything, Mr. Houlihan enjoys being a part of the educational environment and watching students grow in their learning. Mr. Houlihan finds Ware to be a beautiful, vibrant community and is happy to have the opportunity to work here and be part of a teaching team with a growth mind set.
Mr. Houlihan began his teaching career as a teaching intern at the International School of Brussels in Belgium. He then spent two years as a high school special education teacher in Minnesota. Mr. Houlihan moved abroad again and spent three years as an elementary school teacher at the American School of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and four years teaching at a small private school in Belgium. Prior to arriving in Ware, he taught three years of middle school special education in Oxford, MI.
In 2003, Mr. Houlihan graduated from Luther College in Iowa with a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. He received his Master Degree in Psychology from Minnesota State University in 2011.
Mr. Houlihan met his wife, a Massachusetts native, while they were both living and working in Belize, Central America. They continue to enjoy traveling in their free time and are kept busy entertaining their dog, Belikin (from Belize), and their cat, Hooper (from Mississippi). When not in the classroom you can find Mr. Houlihan enjoying his favorite hobbies of reading, biking and gardening.
