MCAS Updates for All Schools
1. MCAS Family Portal Launch: August 14
On August 14, preliminary MCAS results will be available in the MCAS Family Portal. Final results, including student growth information and comparisons to school, district, and statewide results, will be available in late September. The portal will also include results from previous years.
As a reminder, DESE hosted an informational webinar on June 12, and the recording is now posted to the MCAS Resource Center. Other resources, including FAQs for districts and schools, are on DESE’s website.
a. How Families Will Access the Portal
Families will need their student’s unique registration code and date of birth to set up an MCAS Family Portal account or to add additional students to an account. See the instructions for districts and schools on obtaining and distributing the registration codes below.
DESE has posted a customizable template letter to families on the DESE Family Portal webpage, along with translations in the top 15 first languages. This
webpage includes additional resources, such as a Quick Start Guide, a more extensive Help Guide, and Commissioner Martinez’s letter to parents/guardians about the MCAS Family Portal.
b. How Districts and Schools Will Obtain the Registration Codes
DESE has posted registration codes in report PE622 in Edwin Analytics (accessible in DESE’s Security Portal). Districts have the option to use a pre-filled registration letter or an Excel file to distribute registration codes to families. The letters in PE622 will be organized by school, grade, last name, and first name.
District and school staff will log in to the DESE Security Portal, select Edwin Analytics, and type “PE622” in the search box in upper right corner. Students can be pulled in three ways: claimed or pre-claimed students, SIMS students, or MCAS students. Users may export the report as PDF letters or as an Excel list.
DESE recommends using the "SIMS 25-26" under the "Select from" dropdown, which will reflect students’ 2025-26 grade and school assignments.
Note that a small number of families who participated in the Family Portal pilot have already received their registration codes and will be listed as “Yes” when filtered by “Account Created.” These families do not need the registration code re-sent. Most outplacements have access to PE622 and can coordinate with students’ sending districts on the distribution of registration codes. However, not all outplacements have access; it is ultimately the sending districts’ responsibility to make sure that all families receive the codes.
Schools and districts that need assistance claiming students should refer to the student claiming guidance.
We encourage districts to provide registration codes to families as soon as practicable, so that they can begin accessing their students’ preliminary results, but we understand that some districts may need additional time.
