Timothy V. Simons
I am a proud lifelong resident of Ware and graduated from Ware High School in 1986. While at Ware High, I was member of the football and basketball teams being voted as a captain in both sports. I served on the student council and took part in the Model United Nations Program.
After graduation, I enlisted in the United States Army Reserves serving in the Infantry to help defray the cost of college. After my training, I attended Western New England College and graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Government Studies and also was commissioned through the college’s ROTC program as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves as an Intelligence Officer where I have served for 28 years. During my time in the Army, I have traveled and been deployed to Iceland, Qatar, and Iraq. I served in Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003 and 2004 while attached to Special Operations Central Command. My last assignment brought me back to where it began serving as an ROTC Assistant Professor of Military Science at University of Massachusetts, Western New England University and Westfield State University. I will retire from military service this year attaining the rank of Major.
On the civilian side, I gained employment with the Hampshire Sheriff’s Department in 1992 and worked there for 18 years serving as a correctional officer, case manager and director of community corrections. During this time, I completed my first graduate degree earning a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Westfield State University in 1998. I earned a second graduate degree in Counseling Psychology also from Westfield State University in 2012 while I was preparing for a second career as a High School Guidance Counselor logging my student practicum hours at Ware High School. This path was not taken due to a job opportunity that was too good to pass up. In May of 2012, I began working for the Massachusetts Parole Board as a field parole officer and I continue to be employed there to this day. My criminal justice background combined with my counseling education allows me to effectively help reintegrate offenders into society and return others to prison who are not willing or ready to change.
In my spare time, I have coached many youth and high school sports. I am currently coaching the junior varsity girls’ volleyball team and assist with the girls’ basketball program. I also coached football at Ware High School for five years starting in 1999.
I will conclude with my greatest accomplishment in that my wife Kim and I raised our three daughters (Sydney, Samantha and Sadie) in this community and watched them excel in the Ware School System both academically and athletically preparing them for success in adulthood. This experience has provided me with my proudest moments.
