“Ware” Are They Now?  - Abigail Desjardins

I attended Ware public schools from grades K-12.  After Graduating from Ware High School in 2012, I attended the University of South Carolina.  Moving from a close-knit high school of 400 students to a campus of 30,000 seemed daunting, but I was able to fit right in. I double-majored in Marketing and Management, with directed studies in Spanish and Fashion Merchandising.  I was a Woodrow scholarship recipient and was named to the dean’s list. While at USC, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to hone my Spanish skills with a semester in Barcelona, Spain.  A proud sister of Gamma Phi Beta, I served as vice president of philanthropy, helping to raise thousands of dollars for charities such as Relay for Life.

I graduated a semester early, which certainly made my parents happy, earning my Bachelor of Science degree with a grade point average of 3.3.  Prior to graduation, I accepted a job offer from NAVEX Global, a risk management and compliance firm in Charlotte, North Carolina.  I now live in Charlotte and am employed there as a manager overseeing client accounts in the Southwest, New York City, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

I would like to thank the teachers I had in my years in Ware for preparing me so well for college and beyond.  It’s something we don’t typically notice while we are in school, but once we are gone, we realize what they meant to us and how much they have helped.  It’s not just the academics, but also the small one-on-one conversations I’ve had with them that I will remember forever
